Women & Guns Volume 17, Number 6 November-December 2006
Roger Lanny
John Farnam is the consummate instructor, with impressive credentials. His Guns & Warriors from DTI Publications, Inc. is a compilation of his e-mail newsletter (which started life in hard copy) to his students from its inception in May 1998, through the end of 2002. Although I have been a delighted recipient of what is now called DTI Quips since 2000, I enjoyed reading those items just as much, and marveled at what I’d either forgotten, or, perhaps, overlooked.
This book is sure to fascinate and inform you – and it’s a darn good “read.” Guns & Warriors covers virtually every facet of handguns, rifles and shotguns, plus nine chapters on fascinating insights into various international hot spots and history that rival the History Channel on TV.
The various items are not only John’s own thoughts and insights, but also from those of his friends and colleagues from many and varied organizations. Quoted anonymously, they make for extremely useful training points and lessons.
An excellent addition, missing from most books of this type, is an extensive index. It makes locating a partially remembered or new item trivial. You will find this a worthy addition to your library, and/or, a great gift. If John doesn’t mind me plagiarizing one of his phrases, his book is – “Highly Recommended.”
